Sat • 8am–6pm
Sun • 9am–5pm

To make reservations for indoor fitness activities, please read the Welcome Back page of our website where you will also find a link and instructions to registermembers must register and make a reservation to enter the facility.
In accordance with federal, state, and local health officials and Governor Pritzker’s Phase 4 Reopening plan, McGaw is excited to welcome back more of our wonderful programs…just with some new twists!
We are doing some important work on the pools to get them ready to welcome back swimmers. Like with other areas, there will be some new guidelines—for example, members will have to register and make reservations to use the pools. Our initial goal is to give those 16 years and over the opportunity to use the pools for lap swimming, aqua jogging, and MYST. The pools will open on Wednesday, July 8th. Stay tuned…more information including the hours and guidelines coming soon.
As a member of McGaw, you are likely aware of our many fitness facilities and opportunities, but did you know McGaw…
  • Runs the largest childcare center in Evanston

  • Educates and provides enrichments for over 1,000 students PreK-8th grade throughout the year in our full-day, part-day, afterschool, and summer programs in Evanston as well as at Camp Echo in Michigan.

  • Runs a cutting edge “maker space” that provides much needed programming for our middle school students, engaging them in analysis, design, and innovation to develop solutions to real-world problems.
And thanks to our generous donors, we are able to seek out and work with intention to ensure those young people who need us most and have fewer opportunities for enrichment are served by McGaw.

McGaw is here for all of our community. We are here for a better us!

Following guidance from the states of Michigan and Illinois, Family Camp will begin July 6th. We’re excited to have people up at camp to enjoy our 500 acres of the great outdoors! Each family will have their own cabin and social distancing will be practiced as we offer activities following all health and safety guidelines. Week-long sessions will run in July and August with some additional weekend sessions later in August and September. There are still some sessions with openings so go to the Camp Echo website for more information and to sign up!

MetaMedia is back but with a few twists.
  • MetaMedia pop-ups. We’re partnering with Northwestern University to do Meta Pop Ups focused on Family STEM activities in City parks. Stay tuned for more information.
  • MSX coming soon. MSX, a digital design and innovation program, will be available online for incoming 6th grade District 65 students.
  • MetaMedia at camp. MetaMedia will support STEAM enrichment at Summer Day Camp programs.

McGaw is excited to begin Summer Day Camp on July 6 with groups of students at Foster/Family Focus and Dewey Elementary School where we will serve 120 students each week for five weeks. We are combining camp with additional focus on summer learning and serving many young people who do not have other opportunities for important summer educational enrichment.

Our younger students will be returning to McGaw’s Head Start program on July 6th. Head Start serves students ages 3
5 with rich, interesting curriculum and activities and partners with families to ensure students are kindergarten ready. McGaw was intentional about locating our Head Start program at Foster/Family Focus to make it accessible to children and families who qualify for this federally funded program.
All of McGaw’s staff has and continues to work extremely hard to welcome back our members in safe and healthy ways but we want to give a special shout out to our Building Services Team:

It is their job to interpret all of the new guidelines and regulations and apply them to McGaw—from spacing and moving equipment to implementing new, deeper, more frequent cleaning protocols. Even with locker rooms and some other areas closed off, McGaw has thousands of square feet of space and surfaces to monitor and keep clean.

McGaw takes our mission of service to the community very seriously and our Building Services team is carrying out that mission by moving deliberately and thoroughly through the process of reopening to ensure we are truly ready to welcome you back. Please be sure to thank them as you see them cleaning—and re-cleaning—all around the Y!
