Subject: Knitlet - the 2nd one

Hello Friend,

Today I'm going to take a risk of being unpopular :)
(yes, the nupp stitch - but don't worry, I'll give you the option to avoid it if you want to)

For the "Knitlet"s second swatch I chose a pattern that might give mixed feelings. Nupp stitches are challenging enough, but two nupps side by side - well, it's a bit of a pickle for me as well. It's not hard (she said quickly), but you have to be careful and not rushing it.

Now that I have unwillingly, but completely scared you, let's continue :)

For this swatch, I used Malabrigo Lace yarn again (I tell you, this yarn is like a cloud and I think I'm addicted) and 2 mm needles (US 0 / UK 14). And again, I would recommend using smaller size needles to draw out the pattern more.

Here's the swatch:
The pattern is worked over 20 stitches and 18 rows. Be careful with the parts where are nupp stitches side by side or if you see "yarn over" next to the nupp stitch.

Find the in depth nupp stitch tutorial here

For this swatch, I casted on 36 stitches - 3 for edging, 30 for the pattern (total of 3 pattern repeats), and 3 for edging.
Abbreviations:

RS - right side;
WS - wrong side;
K, k - knit on RS, purl on WS;
P, p - purl on WS, knit on RS;
yo - yarn over;
yo x 2 - on RS yarn over twice; on WS k1, p1;
ssk - slip, slip, knit together through back loop;
k2tog - knit 2 stitches together;
nupp - Estonian nupp stitch; increase 7 stitches into 1 stitch by alternating knit and yarn over stitches starting and ending with knit stitch; on your next row purl those 7 stitches together as one;
nupp x 2 - work 2 nupp stitches into next 2 stitches;
Pattern:

Row 18: Purl.

And here's the chart:
You could also split the pattern and use either side - nupps or no nupps. I'll give you an example. Let's do only pattern with nupps:
Work the pattern over 10 stitches and 18 rows.

Row 1 (RS): K3, k2tog, yo x 2, ssk, k3. (10 sts)
Row 2 and all WS rows: Purl (for double yarn overs make sure you k1, p1 and for nupp stitch purl those 7 sts together)
Row 3: K2, k2tog, yo, k2, yo, ssk, k2.
Row 5: K1, k2tog, yo, k1, nupp x 2, k1, yo, ssk, k1.
Row 7: K2tog, yo, nupp x 2, k2, nupp x 2, yo, ssk.
Row 9: (Yo, ssk, k1, k2tog, yo) x 2.
Row 11: Yo, ssk, nupp x 2, k2, nupp x 2, k2tog, yo.
Row 13: K1, yo, ssk, k1, nupp x 2, k1, k2tog, yo, k1.
Row 15: K2, yo, ssk, k2, k2tog, yo, k2.
Row 17: K3, yo, ssk, k2tog, yo, k3.

Similarly, you can do this pattern without nupps - just substitute the nupp stitch with the usual knit stitch.
