"HIIT is a great way to get in shape"
If you need to liven up your workout—and your results—consider reserving time at McGaw’s brand new, state-of-the-art HIIT/Cycle Studio!

The space is beautifully designed with 12 bikes on one side for cycle classes and individual workouts. The other side has everything you need for a great HIIT workout—we know that because YOU chose the machines! Members were surveyed and McGaw listened and included the machines you asked for in this great new space.

Like everywhere else at McGaw, we are practicing social distancing and following all health and safety rules and guidelines. Reservations for classes and use of the studio can be made at the HIIT/Cycle Studio page. And watch the video below to see what you have to look forward to!

It is often said that everyone comes to McGawall ages, all gender identities, all races, all abilities, all ethnicities, all incomes, all neighborhoods and wards. McGaw truly looks like Evanston. But McGaw’s representation goes deeper and is intentional.

McGaw is diverse and inclusive by design…
  • McGaw is led by an amazing CEO/President who is one of only 41 African American YMCA CEOs in the country of which only 9 are women. (There are over 800 Y CEOs in the US.)

  • Our board of directors represents different ages, neighborhoods, backgrounds and careers, and our board is 52% people of color and 48% white.

  • We intentionally seek to serve the entire community, partnering with Evanston/Skokie District 65, Northwestern University, City of Evanston, Cradle to Career and other agencies to reflect the broader community that McGaw serves.

Why is it important to be reflective of our community? Because different perspectives, experiences, and world views make for richer conversations and better decisions. McGaw has been very intentional about lifting up all voices and authentically integrating these perspectives into who we are and how we workand yet we still have much more work to do in this area. What we are seeing in our nation today is a deep need to have the kinds of courageous conversations McGaw is “digging” into.

McGaw is here for all of our community. We are here for a better us!

McGaw really does have THE best staff, but we want to give a very special shoutout to our Membership Team! This team staffs McGaw 24/7, 365 days a year. And since the shutdown due to COVID-19, our bustling staff of over 250 people often came down to just one person onsitea member of our Membership Team.

During the shutdown, as so many staff were working from home, the single Membership Team member on duty answered calls and emails 24 hours a day while also supporting our Resident members. As we started to work towards reopening, Kim, our lovely Member Experience Director, built a completely new, online sign up system so that we can take reservations and keep people safe. And now that we are open, Membership Team members are helping to implement all of the new health and safety policies and procedures including taking temperatures as members arrive and supporting the cleaning of equipment and surfaces throughout the building all day.

We have all come to see and appreciate the people in our community who make so much of what we do possible
grocery, healthcare and other workers are now being recognized as “essential.” At McGaw, it is very clear that our Membership Team are truly essential workers. So much of what happens here would not be possible without their hard work.
