The Health Benefits of a Plant-Based Diet

The foundation for good health begins with the food that we eat. According to a recent WHO report, nutrition and diet are considered to contribute 60% of our health and wellbeing. This is why healthful nutrition is such an integral part of the holistic healing journey at Kamalaya. Kamalaya’s Healthy Cuisine follows a whole food plant-based approach as we have found that this delivers the most significant health benefits, often even in just a short time. There are also relatively few restrictions involved in following this type of nutritional plan which makes it easily accessible to a wide range of people. Rather than the complete exclusion of all animal products, a whole food plant-based diet recommends reducing and eventually phasing out animal products in favour of eating more plant-based foods.

The numerous health benefits of following a whole food plant-based diet are increasingly being recognized by conventional medicine and respected academics. One recent Harvard study which involved approximately 120,000 participants over a 30 year period revealed that those who replaced animal products with plant-based foods for just one meal per day reduced their risk of coronary disease by 20%. When data as credible and remarkable as this supports the health benefits of a plant-based diet, it provides a real inspiration to further explore its potential for ourselves.
