December 2017
CEO UPDATE

2017 has been another busy year for Australian Industry Standards, in which we have partnered with industry to fulfill our mission of establishing a highly adaptive, skilled and productive workforce.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to our industry stakeholders for your ongoing support. A big thank you goes to our IRC Chairs and Committee members for their outstanding contribution this year. Your work in partnership with AIS ensures industry has a strong voice on the future skills of the workforce.

AIS – YOUR INDUSTRY PARTNER IN SKILLS DEVELOPMENT
Paul Walsh - AIS Chief Operating Officer

As the end of 2017 draws close, and many of you prepare for a well-earned break, I’m reminded of the significant amount of work that has been completed, and is continuing into 2018, to meet the skills needs of the industries we support.

INDUSTRY SKILLS SURVEY AND CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS NOW OPEN

This is your opportunity to help identify the skills needs of your industry.

On behalf of the Industry Reference Committees (IRCs) that we support, Australian Industry Standards (AIS) is calling for industry input on a range of issues that affect the aviation, transport and logistics, maritime, energy, water and utilities, public safety, police, fire, defence and corrections industries.

STRONGER SECURITY SCREENING AT AIRPORTS
Dan Minton - AIS Industry Manager

The Australian Government is strengthening the capabilities of security screening officers at airports around the country. As part of this effort, the Aviation Industry Reference Committee (IRC) is developing a Transport Security Protection qualification that will be used for a proposed screening officer accreditation scheme.

INDUSTRY INSIGHTS

The IRC Industry Skills Forecasts have identified Australia’s ageing workforce as a considerable challenge to industry. As workers retire, businesses face an increasing risk of knowledge and skills gaps.
