Subject: Knitlet - the 8th one

Hello Friend,

Let's look at Estonian gathered stitches today, shall we? It is a super easy knitting technique, but so effective. Try it - you won't regret it.

For gathered stitches, I would recommend the same type of yarn you would use when knitting cables. Something with good definition and not too fuzzy.

For today's swatch, I used Malabrigo Sock yarn again (because I knew this yarn will be perfect for showcasing Estonian gathered stitches) and 3 mm needles (US 2,5 / UK 11).

Here's the swatch:
The pattern is worked over 4+2 stitches and 4 rows.

For this swatch, I casted on 28 stitches - 3 for edging, 20+2 for the pattern (5 pattern repeats), and 3 for edging.
Abbreviations:

RS - right side;
WS - wrong side;
k - knit;
p - purl;
3-3 (also known as 3F3 and 3 from 3) - k3tog (don't slip off), yo, k3tog;
see the tutorial here
k3tog - knit 3 sts together;
yo - yarn over;
rep - repeat;
( ) - pattern repeat;
Pattern:

Row 1 (RS): (3-3, k1) rep, k2.
Row 2 (WS): Purl.
Row 3: K1, (k1, 3-3) rep, k1.
Row 4: Purl.
Idea:

It would be a perfect blanket when alternating gathered stitch blocks with Stockinette stitch blocks. You know, like a basket wave stitch.

So here's the pattern I have in mind:

Pattern repeat is 44+22 stitches (without edging stitches).

Row 1 (RS): [K22, (3-3, k1) x 4 times, 3-3, k3] rep, k22.
Row 2 and all the WS rows: Purl.
Row 3: [K24, (3-3, k1) x 5 times] rep, k22.
Row 5: [K22, (3-3, k1) x 4 times, 3-3, k3] rep, k22.
Row 7: [K24, (3-3, k1) x 5 times] rep, k22.
Row 9: [K22, (3-3, k1) x 4 times, 3-3, k3] rep, k22.
Row 11: [K24, (3-3, k1) x 5 times] rep, k22.
Row 13: [K22, (3-3, k1) x 4 times, 3-3, k3] rep, k22.
