Subject: Knitlet - the 1st one

Hello Friend,

I am super grateful that I can spend a bit of knitting time with you. I'm not going to waste it :)

For the "Knitlet"s first swatch I chose a fantastic lacy pattern that would be especially exquisite for a larger shawl. Of course, it's no surprise it's a motif of Estonian lace I grew up with. And as I'm working on our next knit-a-long and a new lace shawl pattern, I am soaked up from all the knitted lace there can be.

For this swatch, I used Malabrigo Lace yarn and 2 mm needles (US 0 / UK 14). That yarn is pure heaven... I would definitely recommend using smaller size needles to draw out the pattern more.

Here's the swatch:
The pattern is worked over 10 stitches and 12 rows. This lace pattern is quite simple, but the tricky parts are double yarn overs. You have to be careful not to lose one of them by accident.

Here's the "yarn over twice" tutorial, in case you haven't used this technique.

For this swatch, I casted on 36 stitches - 3 for edging, 30 for the pattern (total of 3 pattern repeats) and 3 for edging.

I know I said that I have no full pattern for you today, but if I were to knit a shawl, I would cast on 160 stitches - 5 for the edge, 150 for the pattern repeats (total of 15 pattern repeats), and 5 for the other edge. I would knit 10 rows for starters and then start with the pattern knitting first 5 and last 5 stitches to get the garter stitch edging. Once I have the length, I would end with 10 knit rows and bind off.

I'm telling you, it would be a stunning shawl!
