Armchair Traveler
Armchair Traveler: A Trip on the Seine River from Paris to Normandy, France
Thursday, February 11
1–2:30 PM via Zoom

This trip started with exploring Paris, then a boat trip up the Seine River to the beaches of Normandy. It was a ten day boat ride, stopping at unique towns along the way. For example, Giverny to explore Monet’s home and gardens, the beautiful old town of Les Andelys and its architecture, and the city of Rouen where Joan of Arc was executed. We visited many beautiful cathedrals and old castles. We enjoyed the Normandy countryside on the boat deck and learned about famous artists, French history, and geology. We tasted amazing French food and wine. To conclude the trip, we were on the shores of Normandy and at the American Military Cemetery, capped off with a visit to the Caen Memorial Museum.

Books-Cheese-Wine
Books-Cheese-Wine with Author Nora Murphy
White Birch, Red Hawthorn
Thursday, February 18
3:30–5 PM via Zoom

A note about Books-Cheese-Wine: Before COVID-19, our popular Books-Cheese-Wine series was offered on our campus in St. Paul, complete with an engaging author, lively conversation, and (of course!) wine and cheese. We’re still offering Books-Cheese-Wine, only now you get to participate from the comfort of your own home! Log into Zoom and connect with a new author, and don’t forget to have your own food and drink on hand to enjoy!

Nora Murphy tells the story of her Irish American ancestors’ maple grove that, long before the Irish arrived, was home to three Native tribes: the Dakota, Ojibway, and Ho-Chunk. The fact that her dispossessed ancestors’ homestead was built upon another, far more brutal dispossession is the hard truth underlying Murphy’s search for the deeper connections between this contested land and the communities who call it home. This book is a personal investigation into the multigenerational cost of immigration and genocide in the American heartland.

Juniper
Stay Healthy and Fit through Juniper Online Classes

Juniper is a Minnesota-based organization that brings evidenced-based health and wellness classes to older adults, helping them stay well, improve their balance, prevent falls, and get fit! Until March 2020, these classes met face to face with groups of people and an instructor. Now these classes are being offered online, meaning a course might be offered in Paynesville and someone 90 miles away in Brainerd can take it!

2nd Half with Lyngblomsten has partnered with Juniper in the past to offer in-person classes, so we’re excited to share these online opportunities with you! If you are struggling with diabetes, chronic pain, heart disease, depression, or any other chronic condition, one of the Living Well classes might be just right for you. If you are concerned about your ability to get around safely and you want to avoid falling, check out the Tai Ji Quan or the Stay Active and Independent for Life (SAIL) class.
