If we stand together, we can heal together.
"Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced."—JAMES BALDWIN, 1962
These are complex, challenging, and pivotal times. Our team is grappling with the fear and pain that is consuming our nation in this moment on top of the stress we all feel in the unchartered waters of the pandemic and economic breakdown while the climate, plastic, and biodiversity crises rage quietly in the background.

We hope the solidarity we're witnessing in response to the protests that have been filling U.S. streets since the world watched George Floyd die ten days ago — following the murders of Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless other victims of police brutality and racist violence — is a sign that we are ready to learn from one anther, bridge divides, and begin the hard work of creating a better future.

Over the past week and a half, a growing list of leaders and organizations have begun acknowledging the intersectionality of social, environmental, and planetary justice along with the need for empathetic learning — authentic and deep enough to catalyze a powerful movement for change.

We at Save Our Shores stand with all who seek truth, justice, and a future that is safe, equitable, and sustainable for all. As we continue to protect our life-giving waters, we will open our hearts to learning so that we can better ground our work in justice and equity and help heal our broken world.
"Words like 'freedom,' 'justice,' 'democracy' are not common concepts; on the contrary, they are rare. People are not born knowing what these are. It takes enormous and, above all, individual effort to arrive at the respect for other people that these words imply."—JAMES BALDWIN, 1956
