Subject: Happy and healthy spring wishes from IIIC Wellness

Wishing you a wonderful spring from IIIC's Wellness team!
“Social work is the art of listening and the science of hope."

Happy Spring to everyone! At Wellness Services, we are wrapping up social work month and a busy winter season. Siobhan Kelly and I are proud to have spent another year bringing our counseling, case management, and advocacy skills to our IIIC clients and community. We are committed to the mental health and well-being of everyone who seeks us out.

Whether its for support with a life decision, substance use, depression, or to solve a family or medical crisis, we listen, problem-solve, and offer hope when it can be hard to find. We hold dear the core social work principles of empathy, respect and empowering others, and acknowledge the privilege it is to work with all of our clients as they navigate change and healing. As a fellow clinician puts it, “when you do it right, social work is a feeling larger than your own life” (Ogden Rogers). We wholeheartedly agree!

Suicide Awareness and Springtime
Spring is a time of struggle for many, and a time of increased suicides worldwide. In collaboration with the Greater Boston Coalition for Suicide Prevention, we are excited to host an evening event with a screening of the film “The Ripple Effect” on April 16th. It’s free and full of hope! The movie was made by a survivor of an attempt at the Golden Gate bridge, speaking towards the impact of suicidal behavior and the hope and healing to be found in every community that gets together to talk about struggle and loss.

Register for the event here!

And check out Rachel’s recent article about “The Ripple Effect" here!

Advocacy Day for All: Join Rachel and Siobhan as we lobby our state legislators for increased funding for suicide awareness and prevention. The state needs to hear all our voices! Providers, survivors, families and everyone concerned about a safer, healthier MA. Happy to have people join us!

Sign up here! You will receive webinar links and resources via email after you complete the online registration form, providing tips on meeting with your State Representatives and information about how to prepare!
FáilteIrish Classes & Spring Registration

"I learned basic Irish ten years ago and wanted to brush up. It was great to be able to do this while having fun at the same time! I met so many great people in the class from not only Ireland, but also America and other parts of the world who were interested in learning the Irish language. Thanks to the IIIC and CnaG for providing these classes!” -  Irish Student, Niamh McAteer
This Winter marked the 3rd year of Irish classes at the IIIC, hosted by Wellness Services, in collaboration with Cumann na Gaeilge Boston! We had successful Fall and winter semesters, including both Beginner and Advanced levels.

We say a huge thank you to our teacher, Matthew Caughey, whose infectious enthusiasm and flair for the language was an inspiration to his students for the past 3 sessions.

We also extend a warm welcome to Natasha Sumner, who joins us this May for Beginners Irish. We are particularly grateful to Pat Clifford for 3 years of teaching at the IIIC!

It’s been a joy to see our classrooms filled with such lively Irish culture; our teachers, and students alike, are welcoming, fun and excited to help keep the Irish language alive in Boston! The summer will see the return of our popular “Irish Chat Nights”, hope to see you there! For information about our May class and the Summer, contact

Thank you to the Charitable Irish Society!

The Charitable Irish Society helps Wellness clients with medical, housing, crisis travel, and other urgent needs. IIIC clients from Ireland, the UK, Morocco, Puerto Rico, and Nigeria have received fast, compassionate assistance from the CIS this past year. They are the oldest Irish society in the US, and a vital partner in our work with immigrants.

The Irish Council for Prisoners Overseas
On February 28th, we co-hosted an informative call with the Irish Council for Prisoners Overseas (ICPO). Catherine Kenny and Leslie Alcock spoke to staff from the Irish immigrant centers across the US about the host of services that the ICPO provides to Irish citizens who are imprisoned in the US and around the world. They explained the amazing supports available to families affected by imprisonment, and to those returning to Ireland after prison release or returning in crisis. If anyone you know could benefit from their wisdom, concrete help, and compassion, reach out to the ICPO here
Celebrating Irish Women Filmmakers!

The Boston Irish Film Festival returned to the Somerville Theater this March, bringing with it an amazing selection of current Irish cinema. Once again, the festival drew large crowds to celebrate Irish culture, and this year’s opening night on March 22nd featured all Irish women directed and produced films with ‘Late Afternoon’  and ‘Float Like A Butterfly.' Our Wellness team left inspired and proud of all that Irish cinema can teach us about human resilience and community.
